My first quarter of second year is over, YAY!! This means that I’m 1/3 a veterinarian. Crazy. I’m glad to have this quarter over, it was not my favorite so far. While I liked a lot of the subject matter, I didn’t really love any of the classes. I realize that doesn’t make sense, but in my head it totally does. Anyway, the quarter rounded out with a Pharmacology final, a Bacteriology/Mycology final, and then a General Pathology final. Pharm and Path were a bit rough, but I don’t know how I did yet. And right at this moment, I don’t really care. I finished my final on Wednesday, and came home to relax and nap. Then I went skating, and met up with some friends afterward for some celebration (i.e. – drinking!). I had a great time, and then Thursday morning I slept in suuuuuper late :D I was way behind in sleep and it was great to get all caught up. Then I pretty much did nothing the rest of the day, which was amazing.
Today I had a lunch meeting with a lab animal vet here at Davis to discuss tracking, fourth year rotations, electives, residencies, and other stuff. It was such a great and productive meeting! This vet is so awesome, she’s just really open and willing to help vet students that want to go into lab animal medicine. She gave me some wonderful advice and I feel fortunate that I met her and she took time out of her busy schedule to meet with me. I’ve done nothing at all the rest of the day :) The next couple of days will be full of running errands, cleaning, packing, etc., but I figured I deserve a couple of days off.
I’ll be leaving Davis Tuesday morning (with 5 sedated kitties in 5 separate carriers) for Los Angeles. Then there’s a few days with my husband, time with his family in San Diego, flying to Ohio for Christmas with my family, back to Los Angeles for New Year’s Eve with my friends, and then back to Davis and vet school. It hasn’t even started and my break already seems too short!
Then, on January 3rd, I will begin the infamous and dreaded second year Winter quarter. This is supposedly the worst quarter in all of vet school. I know it’s easy to say this now, but I’m ready for it! I’m ready for a fresh quarter, and I’m ready to take on the challenge. I’ve got the most amazing study group in the world, fabulous friends, and I know that I can do it :)
